WASHINGTON (Sputnik – 30th May, 2019) The United States has no plans yet for meetings or other contacts between President Donald Trump and new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but Washington is interested in continued engagement with Kiev, US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said at a think tank on Wednesday.
“This was a topic we discussed with President.
We do not have a decision yet on how it is going to work. We need to be continuing engagement, including at the presidents’ level,” Volker said when asked if any meetings or phone calls have been scheduled between Trump and Zelensky.
On April 21, Trump called the new Ukrainian president to congratulate him on election victory and express his commitment to work together to help implement reforms in Ukraine.
On May 20, Zelensky was sworn in as Ukraine’s sixth president.
