New Pakistani Rupee Design Finalized, Awaiting Cabinet Approval: SBP

KARACHI – A major change is on the horizon for Pakistan’s currency system, as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has finalized the design for a brand-new series of banknotes. The official unveiling of the redesigned Pakistani rupee is expected soon—pending approval from the federal Cabinet.

SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad announced the development during a press conference held in Karachi. While confirming that the policy interest rate will remain unchanged, he shifted focus to the more headline-grabbing update: the long-awaited revamp of Pakistan’s currency notes.

According to Ahmad, the updated banknotes represent a significant step forward in both visual appeal and security. “We’ve completed the design phase after thorough review and are now moving toward the next stage,” he said. “Once the Cabinet grants approval, the public will be formally introduced to the new notes.”

Despite rising excitement and viral images circulating online, SBP clarified that no official visuals have been released yet. Governor Ahmad cautioned the public against relying on social media posts or past artwork shared during SBP design contests.

The new currency notes are expected to come with state-of-the-art security features, enhanced durability, and modern aesthetics that align with global banking standards. The overhaul is seen as a bold shift in Pakistan’s monetary identity and a step towards improving both counterfeiting resistance and user experience.

Stay tuned for official updates as the process advances toward its final stages.
