Balochistan’s Washuk bus tragedy claims 28 lives; dozens injured

QUETTA – At least 28 people, including women and children, were killed and nearly two dozen others injured when a bus veered off and fell into revine near Wushuk region in Balochistan on Wednesday.

The accident occurred due to tyre burst while the passenger coach was moving from Gwadar to Quetta in country’s sparsely populated region.

Rescue officials rushed to the site along with police and local administration and moved the injured and deceased to local medical facility. Among the deceased are three women and three children.

The bus was carrying 45 to 50 passengers from Turbat to Quetta, and crashed around 5am. Some of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns of more fatalities.

At least ten critically injured have been moved to CMH Khuzdar, and four others are to be airlifted to the provincial capital Quetta.

Rescue operations were delayed due to a lack of mobile network at the site, per reports. Most of the deceased have not been identified yet.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti mourned deaths and ordered the best medical care for the injured.
