Senior Civil Judge Inamullah has been suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for issuing a stay order against the demolition of Monal Restaurant, despite a Supreme Court ruling that had called for the restaurant’s demolition.
The decision to suspend Judge Inamullah was made by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, who has also ordered an inquiry into the judge’s conduct. Judge Inamullah has been reassigned as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and has been directed to report to the High Court immediately.
The inquiry into the matter will be led by Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti, who has been appointed as the investigating officer. According to judicial sources, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq summoned Judge Inamullah to the High Court earlier today, following which the suspension orders were issued.
The stay order issued by Judge Inamullah had temporarily halted the demolition of the iconic Monal Restaurant, which had been ordered by the Supreme Court due to environmental concerns and legal disputes over land ownership. The suspension of the judge raises questions about the judicial handling of high-profile cases and the adherence to higher court rulings.
Further developments in the inquiry are expected in the coming days, as the investigation into Judge Inamullah’s decision continues.
