DUBAI – Senior anchorperson Aftab Iqbal was detained at Dubai airport while reasons behind the move are yet to be known.
His brother, Junaid Iqbal, confirmed the development in a post on Twitter. He added that his brother travelled back to the UAE from Manchester yesterday night.
On arrival at Dubai airport, he was stopped and detained there without assigning any reason. “We have not yet got wind of him ever since,” read the post.
“Being protector of our community, you are requested to please take up the matter and let us have his safe exit from the airport enabling him to meet his family,” he added.
Iqbal was detained by authorities as he reached the airport from Manchester. His brother, Junaid, has confirmed the detention.
Last year, Iqbal joined the long list of media persons who have left Pakistan. He went abroad a day after he was arrested in connection with the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander’s House on May 9 and was released shortly.
At that time, Aftab Iqbal wrote in a tweet, “For all wondering if I have left the country for good. NO! I have shows in the UAE and the UK. Summer is all scheduled with these events. See you soon again Pakistan.”
