Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after remaining in a coma for two decades following a devastating car accident in 2005.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Royal Court confirmed the prince’s death in an official statement. His funeral prayer will be held on Saturday, July 20, after Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
A Life Frozen in Time
Prince Al-Waleed suffered a traumatic brain injury in a serious traffic accident in 2005, leaving him in a coma ever since. Over the years, he became a symbol of hope and perseverance in Saudi Arabia and was affectionately referred to as the “Sleeping Prince” across the Arab world and beyond.
Father’s Heartfelt Tribute
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the prince’s father, Prince Khalid bin Talal, shared a sorrowful message:
“With full faith in Allah and hearts filled with grief, we mourn the passing of our beloved son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud. May Allah have mercy on him.”
