Retired Colonel Qazi Ishaq’s Body Recovered from Sawan River; Daughter Still Missing

Islamabad – July 24, 2025:
In a tragic turn of events, the body of retired Colonel Qazi Ishaq was recovered from the raging waters of the Sawan River, three days after he and his daughter were swept away during flash floods in a private housing society in Islamabad.

The search continues for his 25-year-old daughter, who remains missing. Rescue teams are working tirelessly, hoping against hope as time runs out.

The heartbreaking incident occurred during this week’s devastating monsoon rains. Colonel Ishaq was driving with his daughter when their car became stuck in rapidly rising floodwaters. He attempted to restart the vehicle, but the powerful current dragged it into a stormwater drain and out of sight, shocking onlookers who watched helplessly.

For days, emergency teams combed the area. Then, on Thursday morning, they discovered parts of the vehicle beneath Sawan Bridge—its door and bonnet ripped off, evidence of the water’s brutal force. Moments later, Colonel Ishaq’s body was pulled from the river.

His daughter remains unaccounted for, and her family holds onto the faintest glimmer of hope. Rescue 1122 teams, Pakistan Navy divers, helicopters, drones, and heavy equipment remain on site, continuing search efforts around the clock.

This devastating loss has sent ripples of grief across the country. It also reignites serious concerns about Pakistan’s urban flood preparedness, infrastructure safety, and emergency response systems during the monsoon season.
