
LAHORE(A1TV NEWS) Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Secretary General Ameerul Azeem, a veteran religious, political and ideological leader, passed away after battling cancer. He was 68.
His funeral prayer will be offered at Mansoorah, Lahore, on Thursday after Asr prayers at 5:15pm.
He had been suffering from the disease for some time but faced his illness with remarkable courage, patience and perseverance, continuing to discharge his organisational responsibilities until his final days.
Expressing profound grief over his demise, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the party had lost a wise, dignified, principled and deeply committed leader who had devoted his entire life to the cause of Islam, the Islamic movement and the service of Pakistan.
He said Ameerul Azeem’s steadfastness during his prolonged illness would remain a source of inspiration for party workers, adding that his courage never wavered despite his physical condition. “His sincerity, integrity, organisational wisdom and unwavering commitment to the movement will always be remembered,” Hafiz Naeem said.
The JI chief termed Ameerul Azeem’s passing an irreparable loss for the party but said his life, struggle and exemplary character would continue to guide future generations. He prayed that Allah Almighty grant the deceased His infinite mercy, elevate his ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdous, and bless his family, relatives and Jamaat-e-Islami workers with patience and fortitude.
Ameerul Azeem was regarded as one of the foremost pillars of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central leadership. As Secretary General, he played a pivotal role in managing the party’s organisational affairs, shaping its political strategy, training workers and strengthening its nationwide structure. Known for his simplicity, principled leadership, intellectual depth and organisational acumen, he earned immense respect and admiration across all ranks of the party.
His association with the Islamic movement began during his student years when he joined Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT). He later served as Nazim of IJT Lahore before being elected Nazim-e-Ala (President) of IJT Pakistan. During his student leadership, he was also elected President of the Punjab University Students Union. After completing his tenure in IJT, he held several key positions in Jamaat-e-Islami, including Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, Secretary Information of JI Pakistan, and served twice as Secretary General of the party.
Throughout his life, Ameerul Azeem remained committed to the struggle for the establishment of an Islamic social order, democratic constitutional politics and the rule of law in Pakistan. Over the decades, he effectively represented Jamaat-e-Islami’s stance on national issues, while his speeches, writings and intellectual guidance continued to inspire generations of party workers.
