A Delta flight from Barcelona for Boston Logan International Airport made an emergency landing on Sunday, September 27, in Porto, Portugal, the airline confirmed.
Flight DL251 was diverted to Porto after smoke filled the cabin, requiring several passengers to be hospitalised.
A spokesperson for Portugal’s emergency and civil protection authority confirmed to Reuters that three others were hospitalized for treatment.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) officials told local media outlets that they along with other emergency agencies rushed to Terminal 1 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport around 13:30 p.m. local time.
After the plane made the emergency landing, seven Delta flight attendants were examined at the scene after reportedly experiencing symptoms of nausea and headaches.
According to Flightradar24 data, the plane took off from Barcelona at 3:15 p.m. local time (13:15 GMT) and landed in Porto at 5:45 p.m. (16:45 GMT).
A similar incident had earlier been reported, when an Alaska Airlines Flight 803 bound for Hawaii reported that passengers passengers fell sick after an unknown odor was detected on Thursday, September 24.
