In a first, Pakistan becomes U-21 Asian Snooker Champion

Pakistan’s young snooker sensation Ahsan Ramzan added another feather to his cap when he won the Asian U21 Snooker Championship in Iran.

Ramzan defeated Iran’s Milad Pourali Darehchi 5-2 to become the first-ever Pakistani to clinch the Asian U21 Snooker title.

The young Pakistani cueist looked favourite from the start as he took lead of 4-0 by winning the first four frames convincingly.

His Iranian opponent made a comeback in the 5th and 6th frames but couldn’t go beyond that as Ramzan outclassed him in the 7th frame to complete his win.

He won the match with frame scores of 48-46, 70-5, 61-6, 62-29, 30-71, 55-67, 101-27.

Earlier today, Ramzan defeated another Irani cueist Tirdad Azadipout in the semi-final by winning the Best of Seven 4-2 to secure his place in the final.

In the quarter-final, Ramzan defeated India’s Digvijay Kadyan 4-3 on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old won the match with scores of 19-76, 36-76, 67-35, 63-31, 72-55, 27-65 and 9-70 as he came back from a three-two deficit to win the match.

In the group stage matches, Ramzan contested two group matches against Iran’s Arshia Tehrani and Ali Lelegani and defeated both of them.

In his first group match, the teenager beat Tehrani by the score of 3-0 in the Best of Five

Tehrani was faced with humiliation as the Pakistani player dominated all three sets. He won the first frame by a score of 55-21 while in the second frame, Ramzan displayed an all-round performance as he defeated the Iranian by 93-15. He also comfortably won the third frame by maintaining his dominance.

Before Ramzan, three Pakistanis — Farhan Mirza, Majid Ali, and Haris Tahir – on four occasions played in the final of the Asian U21 championship, but none could win the title.
