Peshawar; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has returned the resignation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, citing discrepancies in his signatures.
According to an official statement issued from the Governor House, Governor Kundi observed that the signatures on both resignation letters submitted by the Chief Minister were different and inconsistent. Due to this variation, the Governor refused to accept the resignation and sent it back for verification.
Governor Kundi has directed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to appear in person at the Governor House on October 15 at 3:00 PM to confirm the authenticity of his signatures.
Sources indicate that the Governor believes the resignation cannot be accepted until the signatures are verified in accordance with constitutional requirements.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is set to elect a new Leader of the House today. Four candidates are in the running — Sohail Afridi (PTI), Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman (JUI-F), Sardar Shah Jehan Yousaf (PML-N), and Arbab Zarak Khan (PPP).
Opposition parties are still holding consultations to field a joint candidate for the chief minister’s slot. The assembly currently has 145 members, with 73 votes required to elect the new Chief Minister.
